First, thank you for considering me as your photographer. The fact that you’re here means you see value in what I do, and that means a lot to me!
My goal is to make the process of planning and booking a session simple. If at any time you have any questions or experience technical difficulties (it happens), feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or text me at 801-317-7597.
Are we the perfect fit?
The first step in planning a stress-free photo session with me is to make sure we are the perfect fit. If my style and philosophy matches your vision for your family or individual photos, then I’m sure we’re well on our way to having an awesome experience. Read on to preview the entire process! (To learn more about me, click HERE.)
My style is an editorial, storybook-inspired look – a mix of documentary photography (catching life as it is) and classic portraits (controlling light, backgrounds, clothes, poses, props, etc.). Be prepared to laugh, to move, and to have fun, and we’ll end up with photos that are an amazing combination of playful and perfection!
The most common thing I hear from people before photo sessions is, because of a bad experience in the past, they don’t like taking photos or don’t think they’ll be good at it. But by the time we’re done, they can’t believe how fast the time went and how much fun they had! My philosophy is to not only deliver fantastic photos, but to have a wonderful experience while we’re together. I hope everyone walks away from a session feeling more positive about themselves and their relationships, because I think every person is beautiful and every family is amazing.
People & Packages
Let’s start planning the specifics of your photo session, beginning with who will be in the photos. One person for a head shot? A couple for an anniversary pic? An extended family with 33 people? How many photos you want also helps you decide whether to book a mini-session or a standard session. Mini-sessions are offered on a limited basis (scheduled back-to-back with other sessions, limited time and photos delivered), while standard sessions allow room for plenty of shots and extra features like change of outfits or locations. A third option is to share a session. Shared sessions are a unique feature of our business! They’re fun and affordable.
Here are some options:
- Split a senior session with a best friend or two (each of you will have equal time in the spotlight up to the session time limit)
- Add an individual session to a family session
- Share your family session with another family
- Take a large group photo (i.e. family, friends) with “breakout” sessions for individuals or smaller groups
Photos you are drawn to and are your favorites usually have a certain “feel” to them. While lighting, location, and the photographer’s style of editing all contribute to the overall feel of a photo, often styling is used to create a certain effect. Take a beach photo, for example. A beach setting is great for casual wear, but it is also the ideal location to rock a tux or a romantic gown, tulle skirt or flower crown. They’ll each have a different feel to them.
Two areas that affect styling are the clothes you wear and any props you incorporate. To read more about our specific style and suggestions to achieve a certain look, click the Style Guide link below.
Outdoor, open-air environments with natural light are our first choice, however the location of your portrait session is up to you! We may need to suggest a “location within your location” to get you the best photos, but we love to accommodate our clients as much as possible. We love the challenge and beauty of natural light and have learned to work with all of its nuances to create beautiful photos no matter the circumstances like time of day or weather.
If you need inspiration, check out our blog for ideas. We have some great go-to locations that are very versatile. We live just minutes from downtown Ogden in one of the most diverse areas of Utah – with ideal locations for urban, beach, and mountain photography.and require no entrance or travel fees. We are available year-round as far south as Antelope Island, north to Brigham City and Mantua, and east to Huntsville and Snow Basin without travel fees.
We encourage you to brainstorm unique locations that you might have special access to that most people don’t, or places that have special meaning to you or your family. For example, if you’re a senior and on the swim team, maybe you’ll want some photos at the pool! Maybe it’s a family ranch, private estate, upscale hotel, airplane hangar, or rooftop view that you or someone in your personal network can secure permission to that would otherwise be off-limits. Spend a few minutes thinking about it and checking around. You may be surprised with what you come up with. If something seems out of reach, just remember: you never know until you ask! You can always plan a family activity around your family photos and double your fun and memories.
Just let us know the locations you love and we’ll go from there! Easy. Peasy.
Travel fees are based on mileage/driving time from zip code 84404. Every 30 miles adds an additional $60. For interstate or international travel, fees in addition to session fees are charged for airfare/hotel/car rental.
So, you’ve styled your session and picked a location. What’s next? Logically, it’s picking a date and time!
time & Date
In addition to choosing a location, we’ll need to decide on a time and date. The most important factor is to find what works for YOU (your family, and/or significant others if you’re sharing a session). The better the time and day fits your family, the happier everyone will be! For small children especially, it helps if their bellies are full and they’ve had some good rest beforehand!
Once we receive your initial contact, the booking process will proceed via email, phone, or an in-person meeting before your session.
During the booking process, I will send you a questionnaire to finalize all of the details of your session. This helps us get to know you better and plan the session according to your “must-have” photos and specific details you provide. (If you have 27 people who will be in the photo and you include their names, I really will try to learn them all by Session Day!)
Contract & Payment
Contracts and payments may both be completed online before the session. This way we can work through any issues or concerns beforehand (for example, cases where photos cannot be shared online). With everything already completed, we won’t have to worry about anything on picture day but having fun!
Let the fun begin! By now, we will have communicated back and forth several times and have an excellent idea of your goals and final expected outcome. All that is left to do is enjoy the moment! We’ll meet at our chosen location at the scheduled time – we’ll then spend about 90 minutes having fun and capturing beautiful photos.
prepping your family
Our goal is to make this as fun and stress-free as it possibly can be for you and your family!
Particularly in family sessions, we’ve learned a few things that help things run smoothly. For small children, before your session pack a bag with snacks, water and any small objects (like toys or lollipops) that might help us get their attention when it’s time for them to look at the camera. It also helps if their bellies are full and they’ve had some good rest beforehand. For all ages, it’s a good idea to prepare them for what’s to come before the session starts. Explain how much the photos mean to you so they know to be on their best behavior. “This is what we’ll be doing and this is why” goes a long way! A lot of families discuss and pick something simple and fun in advance as a treat after the session, like an ice cream cone, for example.
Once you prepare them physically and mentally, then feel free to give them (and you) grace! We know that some days don’t always go as planned. We’ve seen it all and will make sure to get you great photos. (And sometimes the cutest photos are of your sweet baby’s meltdown before he could be happy for the next ones.)
memories are the most important
At the end of the day, the location you choose and the outfits you select won’t matter nearly as much as the memories you make. Your future memories are the most important thing to us, and we want your session to be a time for you to just be yourselves and enjoy being together. Have fun together. Laugh a lot! Control what you can and then leave the rest to us.
The first place you’ll see your photos is featured on my blog. I’m always excited to share photos and try to have everything up the Tuesday following your session! The blog serves as the sneak peak to the remainder of your photos and you can instantly share with friends and family.
About two weeks after your session, you’ll receive a link to a personalized online gallery where you’ll be able to download the edited, high-resolution images to print and share. Your photos will be a reflection of you and your personality as well as my style as your photographer. We’re going to rock this together!
share the love
Enjoy and share your photos! Print your favorites (through your online gallery or your local printer), frame them, put them in a memory book, share to social media, use for announcements or invitations. The sky’s the limit! We’ll be sharing them, too, because I know we’re going to love our photography experience with you!
