Nic & Gentri
For months I have looked forward to photographing this newly engaged couple. That's because this is our oldest daughter, Gentri, and her fiance, Nic! She wanted "vintage, urban-y" pics, and so we went to downtown Ogden and took these photos in a parking garage. She (and I) are so excited about how they turned out.
Their Story - "How to Get Engaged" Or, "A Jersey, a Dad and Daughter, and a Kiss"
Nic has been around our home for almost a year now... Gentri and Nic were basically best friends and she was dating someone else. They really got each other: when Gentri wanted to play card games or board games, spend a day at Lagoon, or go out on the town for some non-alcoholic fun, she could always count on Nic. When Nic wanted to play sports or see a soccer game, Gentri was always up for it. (She can hold her own with the guys any day!)
They Venmoed back and forth the price of pizza and munchies for movies, went to church together, and often spent long hours into the night just talking and having fun.
Meanwhile, Gentri had been planning on a trip to Europe for over a year, and just before she left (and after looking at rings together...) her "boyfriend" suddenly cut off the relationship. I really felt for my heartbroken daughter, who spent much of her trip second-guessing that relationship and one-sidedly wishing for what wasn't there and wondering why he just disappeared completely with no real explanation.
On a particularly bad day when she was wanting to share her adventure with a loved one, she skyped Nic and he listened and was excited for her as he always has been. Her last stop was in Spain, and there she went out of her way to find an authentic soccer jersey that Nic asked her if she could possibly get for him. When he came to the house to pick it up, his eyes lit up as I've only seen in little kids at Christmas! He was really touched that she went out of her way to go to the official store to buy the expensive jersey, and especially that she paid for half of it!!! It seems like that was the day that things changed a little.
And now we get to the dad and daughter part.
I was at work, and Gentri was telling Lorin about something she and Nic had done together. Lorin says he doesn't remember what he said exactly, but he asked why she was still hoping for the other relationship when she and Nic had a relationship that was obviously so positive and real. The visit gave her some things to think about, and she credits this visit with her dad to help her see a possible future. Lorin doesn't remember if it was him or me, but one of us told Gentri to just kiss him and see if there were any sparks. Soon after, they tried the kissing part and found that their relationship had some romantic potential!
And that's the end, or really the beginning, of their love story.
