Jaymie and her siblings saw the Knighton’s photos and thought a gift certificate for a family photo session would be the perfect combined birthday gift for their parents, Pete and Virginia. When I sent our questionnaire to find out more about what they were thinking of, they just said “family fun!” Family fun fits my style of photography and my personality really well, so it was an amazing evening with them!
Pete and Virginia’s family currently consists of 27 people: 3 babies, 1 toddler, a bunch of younger kids, several older kids, and then the adults. The amazing part was you absolutely wouldn’t know who belongs to who, because they all got along so well and fit together so beautifully! The teenage boys grabbed the babies and played with them, the older girls hung out with the younger girls, and everyone patiently waited for their family’s turn for individual photos. No one has my admiration more than teenagers who will do stuff they don’t necessarily want to do (like hold their sister’s hand or button up a shirt all the way) because it’s important to their parents or grandparents. I loved the natural interaction between the generations, too; for example, I’m not sure how old Emma is (8 or 9?), but it was so cute to hear their conversation that sounded more like friends, including Emma complementing grandma on her hairstyle.
I really loved this session. As I get more into offering shared sessions, this is a bit of an experiment for me and definitely involved a fair amount of cooperation from each family. They were very patient with me fumbling to remember names, suggesting fun things to do in their photos, and intently looking for and working with light that is a huge part of my signature style. As always, I appreciate Mattie for coming along as my assistant and helping me out with stuff. I think we accomplished some great things. We made some new friends, Pete and Virginia got some gorgeous photos of their awesome family, and they all had a lot of fun together!

KY & HANNAH
Ky & Hannah, our son and daughter-in-law. I remember when they were first dating, they jokingly said their “couple name” was Kyannah. Would they, will they, name a little girl this name? I guess we won’t know for awhile, since they are having a boy, and his name is … Ryker.
